With car technology improving all the time it probably feels like they are safer and more secure than ever, but sadly this isn’t the case with car theft still on the rise. How can I protect my car?

 

Do the easy stuff

Classic methods still work, lock your car properly, close all windows, and keep valuables out of sight or in the boot if you must leave them inside.

Secure your keys

Make sure to keep your keys away from your front door or any windows, thieves have been known to try and reach them through a letter box or via windows.

Go old school

Devices such as a steering wheel lock, a driveway parking post, or even a wheel clamp can be a good theft preventive. Most high street car accessory stores such as Halfords have a great range which are secure and won’t break the bank.

Got a garage? Use it! 

 A garage would obviously give more security for a car (especially an alarmed one) but the number of people that don’t use them is surprising, it only takes minutes to put your car in the garage and would add so much protection. If you do only have a driveway then adding something like a security light can be a good purchase and can discourage car thieves.

Park sensibly

The RAC advises parking under a street light, in a secure car park, or on a friend’s driveway if possible. Always lock your car, hide valuables, use a steering lock if you have one, and keep your keys secure.

Add a tracking device

Tracker state that vehicles fitted with its tech have a 96 per cent recovery rate when stolen. Not only is a tracker an excellent deterrent, but if the worst happens there is a far better chance your car can be recovered.

Buy a signal-blocking pouch
